Hawkers Dress A Hawkeye
One of the unrelenting parts of The Great Wall is not the stairs, but the hawkers selling their wears. Here Erick is outfitted with a coat, scarf, and hat from a persistent woman, who is having way to much fun wrapping him up. ("Too cold. You need scarf" she insisted.) Coat rental = $2 US, hat rental = $1 US, really nice burberry scarf purchase = $9 US (and we were told we paid too much). The comfort of warmth in -10 C degree weather: not priceless, cause it was actually worth about $25 US to me, and we paid somewhere closer to $12 and so is the nature of shopping in China.
